About the ‘All our stories’ project – ‘Capturing Community Heritage in West Malling’
All Our Stories, a brand new small grant programme, launched last year in support of BBC Two’s The Great British Story – has been designed as an opportunity for everyone to get involved in their heritage. With HLF funding and support, community groups will carry out activities that help people explore, share and celebrate their local heritage.
‘Capturing Community Heritage in West Malling’ will record the history, heritage and memories of local people living in West Malling, Addington, Birling, East Malling, Kings Hill, Larkfield, Leybourne, Mereworth, Offham, Ryarsh and Trottiscliffe.
The grant will enable the creation of what promises to be a valuable historical resource for all community members and future generations. The project will enable both young and old to get more involved with their community, meet new people, learn new skills such as recording and film making and learn more about their heritage. A ‘Community Heritage Panel’ will be formed to steer the project and assist with all aspects of the project from research to recording memories. There will also be a series of workshops enabling as many local people as possible to contribute. The project will culminate with a tour of local schools and old people’s homes and a celebration event to launch the book and website.
