George Standen – Baker – East Malling by Madeleine Duffield

My great grandfather’s name was George Standen, he was the baker in East Malling from about 1890 I should think. He was a baker before that but had moved around the area. I am writing about my grandmother (his daughter) and documenting the stories she told us about her childhood.

She was the eldest child of George Standen and continued to live there when he died. She kept the shop until her health became too bad and she ended her days in one of the almshouses next door.
